Chinese consumers look on a Canon camera. Still the market leader for camera especially in professional DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) market segment, Canon's revenue from the Chinese market grew rapidly in 2017 despite of the challenge from smartphones with powerful photography features.

Canon, the world's biggest camera maker, said today that earnings from China accounted for 21 percent of its global revenue on photo and image businesses, representing huge demand in the market fueled by consumption upgrading and popularity of social media.

More than 800 billion photos are shot by Chinese consumers annually by various devices, enticing Canon to develop new products targeting young consumers with features like lightweight design, more optional colors, easy smartphone connection, fast focus and 4K video support, said Hideka Ozawa, Canon China’s chairman.

Some new models of Canon's cameras and next-generation Digic 8 imaging processor are expected to help amateurs shoot photos like professionals.

Canon is still the market leader for camera especially in professional DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) market segment. Canon's revenue from the Chinese market still grew rapidly in 2017 despite of the challenge from smartphones with powerful photography features.
