Star rises on production of LCD screens
TCL-backed CSOT will start trial production of a LCD panel line with a total investment of 46.3 billion yuan (US$6.71 billion).
The CSOT, or the Shenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co’s T6 line will produce 90,000 units monthly.
The LCD or liquid crystal displays are used for TVs with 43-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch screens.
Founded in 2009, CSOT focuses on the flat panel display industry.
Its major investor is TCL Group, which sells home appliance devices including TVs.
CSOT also announced a more advanced LCD panel line, T7, which produces panels for TVs with bigger screens and super high-definition such as 8K.
Despite the boom in mobile viewing, consumers still want to watch television especially for dramas and some high-definition (4K and 8K) content, Li Dongsheng, TCL’s chairman, told a forum of the World Internet Conference that was held in Wuzhen last week.
BOE has already started production on an advanced line in Hefei, east China’s Anhui Province.
