Medical professionals from Songjiang District are aiding the city of Xigaze in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Twenty-nine medical professionals from Songjiang District are aiding the city of Xigaze in the Tibet Autonomous Region as the plateau area has been hit by a COVID-19 outbreak.
On August 18, the first batch of 13 Songjiang medical professionals departed for Xigaze in the early morning, all of whom had volunteered for the mission.
"We'll be responsible for doing nucleic acid testing," said Chen Jie, a medical professional from Jiuting Community Health Service Center and chief of the 13-member team.
Gu Jiali, 23, is a medical professional from Sijing Community Health Service Center. Although young, she has gained rich pandemic control and prevention experience.
"I've been frequently dispatched to various temporary quarantine sites before, so my luggage has always been packed with some daily necessities," said Gu.
At 5am on August 22, the district's second batch of 16 medical professionals flew to Xigaze .
In the plateau area, Xigaze has low temperatures and thin air with lower levels of oxygen.
"We will ensure the safety of our members throughout the journey," said Dai Zhenjuan, leader of the nursing team of the 16 members.
In addition to manpower, Songjiang recently transported about 1,800 packages of pandemic control and prevention goods to Xigaze , weighing about 20 tons and worth 1.85 million yuan (US$265,660).
The district has been an assistant city to Xigaze since 1995.
