Ink stones exhibited at Songjiang District Museum
An ink stone exhibition is underway at Songjiang District Museum. Ink stones are one of the “Four Treasures of the Study” which also include brush, ink and paper used by ancient Chinese scholars. The exhibit showcases more than 100 ink stones. The oldest can be dated back to the West Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 23) and the latest was made in the Republic of China (1912-1949) era. The materials used in making the ink stones vary. There are stone, bronze, mud, jade, pottery and porcelain ink stones in the exhibit.
