The third prototype C919, China's first domestically developed narrow-body passenger aircraft, completes its maiden flight at Pudong International Airport on Friday.

The third prototype of the C919, China's first domestically developed narrow-body passenger aircraft, completed its maiden flight at Pudong International Airport on Friday.

The No.103 C919 took off from the fourth runway of Pudong International Airport at 11:07am and landed smoothly after a one-hour-38-minute test flight, the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) said.

The single-aisle jet completed 21 tests during its debut flight on Friday. It will then fly to the Yanliang Testing Base in China's northwest Shaanxi Province to conduct further tests on vibration, flying speed adjustment, load capacity, control stability and more.

COMAC said earlier that the third jet features some design adjustments and different inner structures compared with its two predecessors.

The first and second prototypes of the C919 are carrying out a series of experiments in Shaanxi as well as the eastern Shandong and Jiangxi provinces simultaneously.

Another three C919s are being assembled and all six prototypes will be used to acquire an airworthiness certificate next year, COMAC announced.

The first C919 made its maiden flight from Shanghai on May 5, 2017.
