Qianshan in Anhui Province is promoting its history and culture in cities of the Yangtze River Delta.

In a promotional campaign held in Shanghai over the weekend, six cooperation project agreements, each with an investment value over 100 million yuan (US$14.1 million), were signed.

Professors from Shanghai universities and executives from travel agencies were recruited as ambassadors for Tianzhu Mountain, one of Qianshan’s most famous spots.

“We hope to embrace the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and build Qianshan as the region’s back garden of ecological tourism,” said Qianshan mayor Mei Naixue.

Vice mayor Cai Tingting said Qianshan will step up the development of its high-end B&Bs in an overall plan to promote ecological countryside tourism.

Qianshan was the capital of the Wan country more than 2,500 years ago, and today’s Anhui is officially abbreviated as Wan. It is also the original home of Peking Opera, and the birthplace of novelist Zhang Henshui. The town is famous for paper made from mulberry bark.
