Though not yet passing Chinese import quarantine, Indonesian pineapples entered Shanghai for the upcoming second China International Import Expo (CIIE).

The batch of exotic pineapples, 36 kilograms in weight, went through Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Monday, Shanghai Customs said on Wednesday.

The pineapples entered through a “green channel” for the expo and were inspected on-site before being let go with the authorization of China Customs.

Indonesian pineapples have been found on the Chinese market, but only canned. Fresh pineapples from the country have not yet got the approval of Chinese authorities to be sold here.

But it could be just a matter of time.

Last year, pineapples from Panama entered China for the import expo in November under the same measure. The following month, they became the first fruit allowed to enter the Chinese market after the expo.

This year, Panama again has brought its pineapples to the expo.

The second CIIE will be held from November 5 to 10.
