Foreign investment promotion regulation to be drafted
Shanghai’s legislators are set to draft a regulation this year to promote foreign investment in the city, according to the annual report of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai People’s Congress released on Friday.
The committee said it will draft a regulation to promote and protect intellectual property rights and revise the city's regulation against unfair competition.
The legislators are also set to draft or revise regulations on production safety and regulations on the management of non-motor vehicles.
This year, the legislators also plan to carry out a law enforcement inspection of the city’s first garbage-sorting regulation passed during last year’s session of the Shanghai People’s Congress and also to supervise the improvement of the business environment for foreign businesses, the development of advanced manufacturing industries, senior care services in residential communities and the adding of elevators in old residential complexes, among other plans.
They will also hear a report on the opening and improvement of public space along Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek and a report on the city’s environment and the realization of environment protection goals in 2019.
The Standing Committee of the Shanghai People’s Congress deliberated on 14 laws and law-related decisions in 2019 and passed eight of them. Among the passed laws and decisions were the city’s first regulation covering home-help services and the decision to implement China’s first foreign investment law.
The committee also heard 11 work reports from different government departments and carried out law enforcement inspections on four matters.
