Residents' committees to launch mask purchase scheme
Shanghai's 6,000-odd neighborhood and village committees are ready to start mask purchase registrations on Sunday, civil affairs authorities said on Saturday.
Residents will be able to register with neighborhood or village committees to buy masks at designated pharmacies instead of having to queue up.
Committees must pick spacious, well-ventilated, isolated places such as community-based activity rooms as registration spots to prevent gatherings, said Zeng Qun, deputy director of the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.
Currently, each household may buy five masks on a first-come-first-served basis.
