A woman from Hubei Province who was found dead in an apartment in Shanghai was not infected with coronavirus, Shanghai police said on Monday.

The 35-year-old woman surnamed Jiang, who was from Huanggang city, was found dead in her rented apartment in a residential complex on Kangshen Road in the Pudong New Area on Saturday morning, police said.

There was no sign of forced entry at Jiang's apartment, and there were no obvious injuries on her body, according to the police.

Police ruled out murder after forensic experts concluded that she died suddenly after chocking on vomit.

Jiang's sample was tested by the center for disease control and prevention in the Pudong New Area, which came back negative for coronavirus infection, police said.

Pudong health authorities disinfected the scene and surroundings of Jiang's death, and no signs of virus contamination were found, police said.

Jiang arrived in Shanghai in October last year and hadn't left Shanghai in the meantime, according to the police.
