Passengers have their temperatures checked before taking Metro trains at Shanghai Railway Station on Monday.

Passengers taking Metro trains at nine stations in Shanghai had their temperatures checked starting Monday.

It takes only about two seconds to check the temperature of a passenger, and no unusually long queues have resulted from the new measures so far.

Shanghai Metro said on Sunday that temperature censors will soon be replaced by more efficient infrared detectors to cope with an increase in traffic as people return to Shanghai after the Spring Festival holiday.

Temperature screenings will be expanded to other large interchange stations, as well as those near transport hubs and hospitals.
