With 200,000 workers in around 5,000 companies in the Zhangjiang High-tech Park having returned to work, strict epidemic prevention measures are in force to ensure their health with support from the police.

Officers in the Pudong New Area have been assisting companies in confirming employees' travel history and providing other support to help them cope with the current situation.

Shanghai Huahong Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, which has about 4,500 employees, is one of the companies staying in close contact with the police.

Companies are required to report to the police how many of their employees are from Hubei Province, center of the epidemic, and how many have returned to work in Shanghai. But they are often unsure about the numbers.

“We have about 30 employees driving cars with plates issued in that province, and we sought the help from police to verify whether they had driven to the province after the outbreak,” said Wang Huan, the company's director of security.

Wang Fei, an officer at Zhangjiang Police Station, serves about 500 companies in the area, including Huahong. He’s been going to companies every day to hear their needs and advise on best practices.

Wang offered a green channel when the company applied for a certificate to transport dangerous chemicals and also advised the company to make sure the guards who take the temperatures of employees wear protective suits and goggles .

Noncompliance

Police have been warning companies about noncompliance with epidemic rules during their daily patrols.

On February 25, police found a company in Zhangjiang Town had no hand-held thermometers and its clerks were not wearing masks. They suspended the company’s business immediately and only allowed it to open again after it had complied with all the rules.

In another case, the property management of a company was found to be reporting false numbers of employees who had returned to work. The director of the firm was summoned to the police to be admonished.

At Chamtime Plaza, an office building and shopping complex, there were reports of food delivery men climbing over the railings to avoid temperature checks at the entrance.

Police issued a warning to delivery businesses in the area about their obligation to make sure staff stuck to health and safety rules.
