Shanghai Railway Station has enhanced guidance to prevent gatherings and remind passengers to keep a distance while queuing. 

The start of the new semester has seen a peak in the number of students traveling by train in the Yangtze River Delta region, China Railway Shanghai Group said on Monday. 

Between August 20 and 31, 307,000 students took trains in the region, with the peak between August 28 and 30, the group said. 

On August 29, a Saturday, students made 68,000 rail trips in the region. 

Some 340,000 tickets for rail travel between September 1 and 15 in the region had been sold to students as of 8pm on Monday, with the weekends of September 4 to 6 and 11 to 13 the peak periods. 

Exclusive ticket windows and waiting areas for students have been set up at railway stations in the region, the group said. 

Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station have stepped up disinfection and ventilation at waiting and ticketing areas and enhanced temperature checks. Guidance to prevent gatherings has also been beefed up.

Rail passengers are required to wear masks throughout their journeys.
