A “crystal sky” is seen over the city on Monday.

A “crystal sky” was seen over the city on Sunday and Monday. But the phenomenon will be stopped by Typhoon Maysak on Tuesday.

A blue sky with white clouds and good air quality is dubbed a "crystal sky" by city residents.

But Maysak is expected to bring black clouds, gale-force winds and lightning with heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Maysak became a violent typhoon on Monday night with a maximum wind force of 162 kilometers per hour that is still increasing, the city's meteorological bureau said.

It is likely to be the first super typhoon on Tuesday with a wind force of 220kph this year but it will revert to a violent typhoon on Wednesday when it reached the same latitude as Shanghai, the bureau said.

It will not affect the city directly where the maximum wind force will be between 39kph and 49kph, and gradually reducing when Maysak moves on.

Although thunder showers will be seen on the first two days of September, the rest of the week will be clear. Temperatures will reach 33 degrees Celsius and around 30 degrees later in this week.

Tuesday is the first day of the new semester and students are being adviced to be aware of wet and slippery ground and to watch out for items that may be blown down in the wind, such as flowerpots, window glass and advertising boards.

They should also leave home early for school because there may be traffic jams on rainy days during morning and evening peak hours.
