Flight makes unscheduled stop after passenger cuts wrist
A Juneyao Airlines flight from northeast to south China was diverted and forced to land on Monday after a passenger tried to commit suicide midway through the flight.
Flight HO1149 from Harbin in Heilongjiang Province to Huizhou in Guangdong Province was diverted and forced to land at Nanjing Lukou International Airport in east Jiangsu Province at 10:13am after crew members found a female passenger trying to "hurt herself" in the lavatory, the Shanghai-based carrier said in a statement.
The Airbus 321 took off from Harbin Taiping International Airport at 7:45am and was scheduled to arrive at Wuxi in east Jiangsu Province at 11:14am.
The crew immediately gave the passenger first-aid treatment before making the emergency landing, it said. The passenger is said to be in stable condition after being sent to a hospital in Nanjing, the airline said.
The Nanjing airport authority had an ambulance ready at the apron.
The carrier eventually arrived at the Huizhou Pingtan Airport at 5:07pm, a delay of almost three hours.
According to a medical staff at the Nanjing airport, the passenger was a 63-year-old woman who had slashed her left wrist. The wound was 3-centimeters long and 2cm deep.
