Two 5G-driven unmanned mining trucks have been put into operation in northwest China's Gansu Province, according to its developer.

The trucks, jointly produced by China Mobile's Gansu branch and Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group, are being formally used in a limestone mining site.

The site is located 45 km southwest of Gansu's Jiayuguan City, in the alpine mountain region at an altitude of about 3,400 meters.

Through the 5G network, the drilling machine can be operated remotely and automatic driving of mining trucks can be realized, according to Zhang Wei with China Mobile's Jiayuguan branch.

"With the application of 5G-powered mining trucks, human operators have been freed from the clutches of the harsh natural environment, thereby eliminating hazards to their personal safety," Zhang said.
