Global records did not begin in 1880, it would be impossible to obtain data from around the world at that time. NASA was not created until 1959; 79 years after these “global records” began. There were no ocean records, no Antarctica records and no records for isolated regions. In 1880 collecting air temperatures was nothing more than a hobby shared by enthusiasts. In 1900 the Royal Meteorological Society has 600 members, by 1920 it was 900 and in 1947 it was 1,700. These were people who were amateurs taking weather readings and forwarding them to a central office by post or telephone.
